The Academy Act oI 24 July

1991 stipulates that the Croatian Academy oI Sci-

ences and Arts (the legal successor oI the <ugoslav Academy oI Sciences and Arts) is the highest scienti¿c and artistic institu-tion in the Republic oI Croatia and that it promotes and organizes scienti¿c research and encourages the application oI the ¿nd-ings oI this research develops artistic and cultural activities and is concerned Zith the Croatian cultural heritage and its aI¿rma-tion ZorldZide.

Academy membership consists oI the IolloZing categories: Iull members (up to 160);

honorary and corresponding members; associate members.

In accordance Zith the neZ Statute proclaimed by the Croatian Parliament in 1996 the (ninth) Department oI Technical

Sciences Zas established:

The Department oI Social Sciences; The Department oI Mathematical Physical and Chemical Sciences; The Department oI Natural Sciences; The Department oI Medical Sciences; The Department oI Philological Sciences; The Department oI Literature; The Department oI Fine Arts;
