The activity of the Institute includes scientific and professional research with a multidisciplinary approach in humanistic, social, natural, technical and biotechnical sciences, bringing together scientific and professional associates. The Institute organizes scientific meetings, round tables and consultations important for the development of science and the application of scientific results. In addition, Institute organizes exhibitions, lectures, literary meetings, book presentations and publishes the results of scientific research.
The decision on the establishment of the Institute for Scientific Research and Artistic Work in Bjelovar was taken by the Assembly of the Academy on December 29, 2003.
Since 2007, the Institute has been publishing the journal Papers of the Institute for Scientific Research and Artistic Work in Bjelovar, and since 2011 the edition of the Special Edition of the Institute for Scientific Research and Artistic Work in Bjelovar.
Considering the support of the City of Bjelovar and the Bjelovar-Bilogora County and scientific and professional potential, the Institute has become an important center of scientific work.

By the decision of the Presidency of the CASA from March 30, 2022, Vedran Milić is appointed a member of the Institute Council, instead of Vanda Cegledi.
Anđelko Akrap, F.C.A. was appointed a member of the Council of the Institute for Scientific And Artistic Work of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Bjelovar for a term of four years, starting on October 27, 2021.
