The Institute for Scientific and Artistic Work was founded in 1981 after the reorganization of the former Institute for Maritime and Social Sciences. Its activities focus on navigation, historical sciences, and the arts. Articles dealing with these fields are published in the Institute’s periodical publication Adrias. The institute has a maritime collection and displays some of its objects of historical and cultural value at thematic exhibitions.Alone, or in cooperation with other institutions, the Institute organizes exhibitions, lectures, and annual scientific and cultural manifestations Knjiga Mediterana (The Book of the Mediterranean) and Marulićevi dani (Marulić Days). These events take place in its headquarters, the Renaissance-Baroque palace of Milesi family.
