The Linguistic Research Institute was founded in 1984 as a scientific unit of the Department of Philological Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Its activities focus on the study of the Croatian language and general linguistic themes, with special emphasis on lexicography, dialectology, semantics, linguistic geography, morphology and phraseology.
Its research is carried out in the following projects:
- Benešić’s Dictionary of the Croatian Literary Language from the Revival to Ivan Goran Kovačić
- The Study of Croatian Dialects
- The Somatic Thesaurus of the Croatian Language
- The General Slavic Linguistic Atlas (OLA) and the European Linguistic Atlas (ALE)
