Curriculum Vitae

Radenko Wolf was born on February 15, 1919, in Zagreb, where he died on August 5, 1997. He was elected a member of the Academy in 1975 in the then Department of Mathematical, Physical and Technical Sciences, and moved to the Department of Technical Sciences after its establishment in 1997.

He graduated in 1943 from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Zagreb, where he obtained his PhD in 1956. After graduation, he got a job at the Rade Končar Factory, and in 1948 he came to the Institute of Electrical Engineering at the then Faculty of Engineering, University of Zagreb. He was elected full professor of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (today the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb) in 1964 and worked at the Department of Electrical Engineering until his retirement in 1987. Operating in college, he did not break cooperation with the industry. He was the first manager of the Department of Rotary Machinery of the then Electrical Engineering Institute Rade Končar, and until his retirement in 1987 he collaborated in the development of small motors and control devices.

His scientific interest included the field of electrical machinery in which he successfully connects his scientific research achievements with the design, performance, and testing of electrical machines. He has lectured at technical universities in Hanover, Dresden, Southampton, Braunschweig, Budapest, and Vienna. Within the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, he collaborated in the development, research and acquisition of electrical machines and transformers at hydroelectric power plants Trebišnjica (1964), Orlovac (1971) and Obrovac (1977), then thermal power plants Tuzla (1970) and Rijeka (1977) and in many industrial plants.

Radenko Wolf made a great contribution to the development of the faculty as dean (1964–1966), head of the Department of Electrical Engineering (1973–1982) and author of textbooks Introduction to the theory of electrical machines (1975), Introduction to the theory of electrical switchgear (1978) and Fundamentals of electrical machinery (1985) from which today’s generations of students learn.

For his scientific work, he received the following awards and recognitions: The Nikola Tesla Award for scientific research (1970), the Order of Work with the Golden Wreath (1975), the Josip Lončar Golden Plaque of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (1979) and the plaque of the domestic branch of the CIGRE International Committee (1983).
