Curriculum Vitae
Hans Joachim Seitz, a German biochemist, was born in Hamburg in 1940. He studied medicine in Goettingen, Vienna, Oxford and Hamburg, where he received his Doctorate. He was director of the Department of Biochemical Endocrinology at the University of Hamburg and a professor of physiological chemistry at the School of Medicine there.
He is the founder and head of one of the best and most famous thyroid hormone laboratories in Europe. His main area of activity is the influence of thyroid hormones on intermediate metabolism at the cellular and molecular level. He was the leader of many projects, including projects of the European Economic Community in cooperation with the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb.
He is meritorious for the cooperation of the Universities of Hamburg and Zagreb in the exchange of students and the education of doctors. He is also creditable for the formation of the Department of Molecular Medicine of the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
He was elected as a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1998.
