Dr. sc. Hermann Seeger was born on September 16, 1933 in Westelroy, Germany, and died on December 9, 2015. He is one of the pioneers of satellite geodesy. On 28 May 1998, he was elected corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts as president of the Institute for Applied Geodesy in Frankfurt and the first head of the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy.
He held many important positions in international bodies. He was president of the European Commission for Official Cartography, chairman of the management board for the implementation of the European Framework of Reference project and other important German, European and world scientific bodies. With his support, Croatia was included in the Central European Regional Geodynamic Project CERGOP in the mid-1990s, and the XVIII was held in Zagreb in 1996. Plenary session of the European Commission of Managers of official national cartography agencies. He collaborated with Croatian scientists and contributed to the inclusion of Croatia in projects related to the European coordinate system and gravimetric measurements.
