Curriculum Vitae
Kristijan Ramadan was born in Zagreb in 1973. With his extensive scientific and professional activity, he has earned himself a world-renowned reputation in the international scientific community. The results of his scientific work allowed him, through pathology as his fundamental professional and scientific discipline, working as a researcher in international scientific teams, to prove that a top scientist is capable of realizing his own research ideas in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology. After specialization in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology( Swiss Federal Institute of Technology; Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zurich, ETH), is a full professor of Molecular Medicine and Oncology in the Department of Oncology, Department of Oncology, Department of Medical Sciences, University of Oxford, United Kingdom (Department of Oncology, Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford, UK) and Head of research laboratory for DNA damage and recovery.
He is engaged in the study of the basic mechanisms of defending human cells against DNA damage caused by their own metabolism, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. He and his associates discovered a gene whose mutations lead to liver cancer in humans, discovered a cellular process of degradation of chromatin proteins that is indispensable for the stability and recovery of the human genome, then the recovery mechanisms of damaged DNA, and especially significant is his discovery of a new human disease (Ruijs-Aalfs Syndrome) caused by a mutation in the SPRTN (Spartan) gene. Based on his research, Oxford University patented the first biomarker for prediction of metastatic colon cancer therapy.
He publishes the results of his research in prestigious global scientific journals with high IF such as Nature and Nature Review Molecular Cell Biology. He has given numerous invited lectures in various scientific institutions around the world and at international meetings. He is a reviewer of a dozen of the most prestigious journals in the field of biomedical sciences. He is the leader of about 15 international scientific projects.
He was elected as a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2020.
