Curriculum Vitae

Ivan Mirković was born in Zagreb in 1954, where he graduated in theoretical mathematics (1977) and received his master’s degree (1981) from the Mathematical Department of the Faculty of Science. After his master’s degree, he went on to the Doctoral Study at the University of Utah (University of Utah),where he received his Doctorate in 1986. From 1986 to 1993 he was an assistant professor, first at Brandeis University in Boston (until 1989), and subsequently at the University of Massachusets in Amherst. At the same university he was an associate professor (1993-2000), and a full professor from 2000 to the present day. He was a member of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton during several academic years, then in 2010 became a member of  the Institute for Advanced  Studies in Jerusalem and a professor (Eisenbud Professor) and visiting professor (Simons Visiting Professor) at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences Research Institute  in Berkeley. He received the Simons Fellowship in Mathematics award.

Ivan Mirković cooperates with mathematicians in Croatia: he was an invited lecturer at the Croatian Mathematical Congress in 2008, a plenary lecturer in 2016, participates in mathematical conferences at the Interuniversity Centre (IUC) in Dubrovnik, and lectured at the postgraduate study of mathematics in Zagreb. He is a member of the editorial board of the Croatian mathematical journal Glasnik matematički.

Prof. Ivan Mirković is a top scientist who is extremely successful in one of the most technically demanding disciplines of mathematics and algebraic geometry, which is at the center of interest of today’s mathematics. His scientific interest ranges from number theory to mathematical physics, and algebraic geometry and representation theory occupy central places.

Ivan Mirković’s main interest is the topic related to the geometric Langlands program. Ivan Mirković is one of the leading researchers in this fundamental and extremely technically complicated field. The techniques he uses in his research include the most sophisticated constructions of today’s algebraic geometry, based on beam theory and cohomology. He publishes his scientific results in the best mathematical journals. We especially highlight the most famous and prestigious mathematical journal Annals of Mathematics, in which he published three very comprehensive papers.

He was elected as a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2018.
