Curriculum Vitae

Mario Kolar is a literary historian and critic and a university professor. He was born on September 3, 1981, in Koprivnica. He finished primary school in Molve and gymnasium in Đurđevac. In 2000 he enrolled in the study of Croatian language and literature, Slavic languages and literatures and librarianship at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, where he graduated in 2008 and received PhD in 2013.

From 2008 to 2018, he worked as a Croatian language teacher and librarian in several schools and other institutions. From 2018 to the present, he teaches courses in modern and contemporary Croatian literature at the Department of Croatian studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka.

He published five books and about a hundred studies, essays and reviews. He edited selected works of Croatian writers Fran Galović, Slavko Kolar and Dubravko Ivančan, and is (co)editor of several literary and scientific books. He wrote text for the illustrated biographies of Croatian literary classics Tin Ujević and Fran Galović. He is a member of the editorial board of the scientific journals “Podravina” and “Fluminensia” and the literary journal “Artikulacije”. From 2021 to 2023, together with Julijana Matanović, he edited the literary journal “Republika”.

As a student, he recieved the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb, and for his book “Nuspojave čitanja” [Side Effects of Reading], he won the “Julije Benešić” Award.
