Curriculum Vitae

Ivan Halasz was born in 1980 in Zagreb. He graduated in 2003 and earned his PhD in 2008 in the field of chemistry from the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb. After his PhD, as a fellow of the Max Planck Society, he spent two years specializing in powder diffraction at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany. Since 2012, he has been working at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, initially as a research associate, then from 2015, after an early selection, as a senior research associate, and since 2022 as a scientific advisor.

He specializes in solid-state chemistry, particularly mechanochemical reactions, with a focus on reaction mechanisms and the development of new methodologies for in situ monitoring of chemical reactions by grinding, powder X-ray diffraction with structural characterization, and Raman spectroscopy.

By 2024, he has published about 110 scientific papers, mostly in the top tier journals (Q1), which are cited over 5,000 times, and two book chapters. He has been a lecturer at the prestigious International School of Crystallography in Erice and has given several plenary and invited lectures at scientific conferences.

He has led two projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, mentored three PhD theses, several diploma theses, and teaches in the doctoral chemistry program at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb.

He has co-authored two high school chemistry textbooks.

In 2015, he was awarded with the State Annual Award for Scientific Achievement in the field of natural sciences by the Parliament of the Republic of Croatia.
