Curriculum Vitae

Nevenka Čavlek was born in Klokovec, the Municipality of Krapinske Toplice, on  October, 12, 1958. Having completed secondary education at the grammar school of Zabok in 1977 she graduated at the Faculty of Foreign Trade of the University of Zagreb in 1982. She completed her Master’s degree in 1988 and defended her PhD thesis at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb in 1997. She holds the position of tenured full professor at the Department of Tourism at the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb. From 2006 to 2010 she served as the Head of the Department of Tourism and from 2010 to 2014 she acted as the Vice Dean for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb.

Since 2006 Nevenka Čavlek has been the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Acta Turistica. Her editorial board memberships include the following international scientific journals: Tourism Economics; International Journal of Tourism Research; Advances in Hospitality & Tourism Research; Journal of Tourism, Heritage & Services Marketing; Tourismos Journal; Tourism and Rural Development Studies. She has also collaborated as the Associate Editor of the Encyclopedia of Tourism (eds. J. Jafari and H. Xiao, Springer, 2024),  and peer-reviewed manuscripts in scientific journals with the highest impact factors in the field of tourism and two international textbooks.

Nevenka Čavlek has authored or co-authored over 170 scientific and professional papers, three university textbooks and one book, and participated in over forty international conferences where she gave a dozen key note speeches. In addition to winning of three Mijo Mirković awards for her scientific papers, she has also received accolades for her exceptional contributions to scientific productivity of the Faculty of Economics & Business, University of Zagreb, in u 2015, 2016 and 2017 as the author of the most cited papers based on the Web of Science Core Collection data written by the institution’s authors/staff. In 2022 she was bestowed the Global Perspective Award of the University of Pecs. The pinnacle of acclaim for her scientific work was when she was included among 18 leading economists in the field of economics of tourism in the world (The Discovery of Tourism Economics, ed. L. Dwyer, Emerald, 2011).

Nevenka Čavlek is member of the Scientific Council for Tourism and Space at the Croatian Academy of Science and Arts, the Statistical Council of the Republic of Croatia, International Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET), EFMD Programme Accreditation Board in Brussels since 2021 and the Chair of the Committee for Specialist University Study Programmes of the University of Zagreb. She participated in the Working Groups for elaborating Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy until 2030 and the National Plan for Sustainable Tourism 2021 – 2027 of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Croatia.
