Curriculum Vitae

Igor Borzić was born on September 24, 1979, in Split, where he completed primary and secondary school. In 1997, he enrolled in the Geography and Archeology program in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Zadar and graduated in 2003. The following year, he enrolled in the University of Zadar’s doctoral program in Archaeology of the Eastern Adriatic, earning a Master of Science in 2007 (thesis: The Island of Korčula – An Example of Romanization of a Dalmatian Island; supervisor: Nenad Cambj). In 2010, he earned his Doctor of Science – PhD (thesis: Ceramic Finds from the Archaeological Site of Burnum-Amphitheater; supervisor: Nenad Cambj).

Borzić has been employed at the University of Zadar since 2004, first as a researcher on Nenad Cambi’s project “Research of ancient and early Christian culture on the eastern coast of the Adriatic“, and beginning in 2008, as an assistant in the Department of Archeology at the University of Zadar. He was promoted to assistant professor in 2012, and to associate professor in 2021. Today, he is active in the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs of study, with a teaching emphasis on the archeology of the ancient Mediterranean and eastern Adriatic. In addition to his teaching activities, he serves the Department as deputy head of its doctoral program, Archeology of the Eastern Adriatic, and as deputy editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Archaeologia Adriatica.

In research, Borzić has been instrumental in a number of scientific projects, including as a researcher with the Croatian Science Foundation funded project “Ravni kotari: urbanization and landscape change in northern Dalmatia” (leader: Dr. Martina Čelhar), and as lead investigator on the University of Zadar’s two-year scientific project “St. John’s hill fort and Harbor on Korčula – an isolated point of island contact.”

Borzić’s primary research is centered on the Island of Korčula, where he conducts fieldwork at several sites. Among other interests, his work seeks to contextualize Dalmatian archaeological material of Greco-Hellenistic and Roman origin, and to explore the interactions between eastern Adriatic indigenous communities and Greek and Roman settlers.

Finally, over the course of his career, Borzić has authored or co-authored three books and more than fourty scientific and/or professional papers in books, journals, and proceedings. He is also an active participant in professional conferences, having given presentations and posters in more than forty national and international scientific venues.

He became an associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts on May 17, 2024.
