Bermanec, Vladimir, Croatian geologist (Zagreb, August 8, 1955 – Ohrid, North Macedonia, September 13, 2021). He graduated in 1979 and received his PhD in 1992 from the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, where he has been employed since 1978, and since 2001 as a full professor. He served as head of the Mineralogical and Petrographic Institute (1997−99), head of the Department of Geology (2001−03) and vice-dean (2004−06) of the Faculty. He taught several courses in the field of mineralogy. He was engaged in descriptive mineralogy, systematics of mineralogy and crystallochemistry. In his research, he included a number of minerals and mineral groups, such as plagioclass, microclines, zeolites, mica, amphibole, garnets, hematites, halites, etc., of which he described new (until then unknown) minerals: tuzlaite, nezylite, cornite, hennomartinite, n’chwaningite and nioboaeschynite-(Y). He is the author of the university textbook Systematic Mineralogy: Non-Silicate Mineralogy (1999) and co-author of Systematic Mineralogy: Silicate Mineralogy (with Dragutin Slovenac, 2004). He was a member of many international and domestic professional societies and commissions. He was fellow of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2012 in the Department of Natural Sciences.
