Curriculum Vitae

Srećko BRADIć was born in 1963 in Samobor. At the Academy of Music in Zagreb, he graduated in musical culture, and then in composition in the class of prof. Stanko Horvat. He teaches composition and music theory subjects at the Department of Composition and Music Theory at the Academy of Music in Zagreb.

He has been the artistic director of the Samobor Music Autumn Festival for many years, within the framework of which he established the international competition for the best composition “New Note”.

In addition to a strong preference for large forms, his compositional expression is characterized by sound richness, expressionistic saturation of colors and breadth of strokes, and firmly rooted in traditional premises enriched by research into new sound spaces. His instrumentation is sonorous and pasty, characterized by dark, muted colors and impressive use of brass instruments. He is an extremely thoughtful composer, so the number of his compositions is more significant in terms of quality than in scope, but among his forty compositions, large orchestral and vocal-instrumental forms predominate, in which, with a deep and essential immersion in the layered spirituality of canonical sacred texts, he exposed himself as one of our most prominent composers in spiritual music.

In the 2015/2016 season. he was composer-in-residence of the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra

He is the recipient of a number of awards and recognitions, among which stand out the Stjepan Šulek Award (1999), the City of Samobor Award for Culture (2000.), the Boris Papandopulo Award of the Croatian Society of Composers (2013., 2021., 2024.) and the HAZU Award (2024.).

Among his works, the ones which stand out are: the opera Crux Dissimulata (2008.), based on the libretto by Ivan Vidić; Orchestral works (two symphonies (2012. and 2023.); Penetration for piano and strings (1993.); Venery for large orchestra (1996.); Homo erectus for orchestra(2003.); Concerto da chiesa (2011.); Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra (2002.); Concerto for piano and orchestra (2003.); Concerto for flute and orchestra (2010.); Sorrow, for string orchestra (2020.)  and others, a series of chamber compositions (Lead Tear, Piano Quintet, Six Bagatelles for Piano, etc.) and particularly large instrumental and vocal works – Credo for soloists,choir and orchestra (1994.); Requiem for soloists,choir and orchestra (2015.); Miserere (2016.)  and Stabat Mater for soprano,choir and strings (2021.).
