Curriculum Vitae

Alan Ivković was born on August 10, 1974 in Zagreb. He completed primary and secondary school (the first two years under the MIOC program and the second two under the International Baccalaureate program) in Zagreb, as well as the Faculty of Medicine (1993-1999). During his studies, he received a scholarship from the city of Zagreb, which is awarded to the city’s best students. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb in 1999, and in February 2007 he passed the specialist exam in orthopaedics.

He spent the academic year 2007/2008 as a Fulbright scholar at the Center for Molecular Orthopaedics of the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, where he worked on translational projects applying molecular methods in the regeneration and repair of bone and cartilage tissue. He graduated from the same university in 2021 as a participant in the “Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program” postgraduate program. In addition to Harvard, he was educated at numerous other world clinics, including Chicago, Freiburg, Basel, Amsterdam and Berlin. He received his doctorate in 2009 and was also the winner of the Award for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of translational sciences at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb.

In September 2010, he started working at the Department of Orthopaedics of the Sveti Duh Clinical Hospital, where he works to this day as the head of orthopaedics, and holds the position of deputy head of the Department. His area of ​​interest include reconstructive surgery of the lower extremities, sports traumatology, foot surgery, and the application of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering methods in orthopaedics.

He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb and a professor at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Zagreb. He has published over 50 scientific papers in international journals and has been cited more than 1,400 times. He significantly contributed to the discovery and development of autologous nasal cartilage cultivation technology and knee transplantation and tested its effectiveness in animal models and multicentred clinical studies. He is the head of the Croatian partner within the EU-funded research projects BIO-COMET, BIO-CHIP and ENCANTO with a total value of 20 million euros.

He is a member of the Croatian Medical Association, the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Orthopedic Society, the European Society for Sports Medicine, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. He is a member of the board of directors of the European Knee Associates, the Global Regenerative Academy and the Regenerative Medicine Orthopedic Society. As the official doctor of the senior national water polo team, he participated in winning the gold medal at the World Championships in Melbourne in 2007, the European Championships in Zagreb in 2010 and the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
