Curriculum Vitae
Ivana Horbec, born in Zagreb in 1977, is a scientific advisor at the Croatian Institute of History. She studied history at the University of Zagreb, where she obtained a PhD in Early Modern History in 2009. Horbec obtained research scholarships at the Georg August University of Göttingen, University of Vienna and the Institute of History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. She carries out continuous research in Austrian and Hungarian archives and libraries. Horbec took part in various national and international scientific projects. From 2014 to 2018 she was the principal investigator of the project financed by the Croatian Science Foundation.
Her research interest is focused on social, institutional, and intellectual history of the Early Modern Period with the emphasis on the area of the Croatian-Slavonian Kingdom. Her focus is on formation of proto-modern state structures, public health care system, school system, premodern anti-epidemic control and transfers of knowledge in Central and East-Central Europe. In 2015 Horbec received a National Science Award for her monograph on the public health system during the enlightened absolutism. She also received an award for the best monograph in historiography in 2018, for the book discussing state-building during the 18th century. She translated German archival sources and published numerous editorial works and scientific papers.
She was elected as associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts on May 19, 2022.
