Curriculum Vitae
Zlatko Ugljen, architect, was born on September 13, 1929, in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has been a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1990. He worked as a full professor of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Sarajevo (1985–2000), full professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo (since 1986), and as a designer of a number of representative buildings: the National Theatre in Zenica, the White Mosque in Visoko, the Museum in Bihac, Franciscan churches and monasteries in Tuzla and Plehan, bishops’ spiritual and cultural center in Mostar, Hotel Ruža in Mostar, etc.
Ugljen’s architectonics is characterized by an exceptional authorial sensibility for the ambience, content and form with which he notably entered Bosnian-Herzegovinian architecture into the world architectural map. His works have been published in about thirty world architectural magazines and books, have been presented at two dozen exhibitions in his homeland and world capitals and have been awarded several awards, among which the world’s prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which he received in 1983, stands out.
Ugljen is also present in Croatian architecture with projects of the Tourist Resort Zlatni rat in Bol, the Jablanac residential and business ensemble in Zagreb, hotel Narona in Metković, repeated exhibitions in Osijek, Split, and the Croatian Museum of Architecture in Zagreb, and stimulating exchange of ideas and knowledge about the essence and progress of architectonics.
He was elected as a corresponding member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2006.
