The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts Presented Its Publishing Activity in 2020

The Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (CASA) has presented its publishing activity in 2020 at an exhibition opened on Monday 15 March at the CASA Library. In addition to the exhibition, the Academy traditionally presents its publishing activity in the previous year at a press conference, on which occasion the Secretaries of the Academy Departments participate alongside the members of the CASA Management Board. This year, however, the conference was for the first time not held, due to epidemiological measures.
In 2020, the Croatian Academy published a total of 100 titles of various publications: 26 books, 18 proceedings, 35 volumes of journals, 8 exhibitions catalogues, 2 books of abstracts, 7 memorials to deceased Academy members, 1 sheet music, 1 dictionary, 1 diary of drawings, and 1 statement. Out of these one hundred editions, the Academy issued 77 as executive publisher, and 23 as co-publisher. Furthermore, thanks to the support of the Foundation of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, 65 publications were published in 2020 – out of them 19 Academy editions and 46 by other publishers. Members of CASA outside the Academy published further 66 books; thus, thanks to the Academy, its members, and the CASA Foundation, a total of 212 publications were published in 2020.

The total circulation of all Academy editions published in 2020 amounts to 32,270 volumes, while the average circulation is 322 copies per title. In total, these publications number 25,344 pages of scientific and scholarly texts covering all the domains of sciences and arts – 253 pages per title in average.

Out of the aforementioned one hundred publications, 5 are of a general character (CASA Annals for 2019, Work Plans for 2021, CASA Herald, CASA Statement on the Reconstruction of Zagreb after the Earthquake of 22nd March 2020, and Catalogue of Editions Published in 2019). Further 32 volumes cover the field of the Department of Social Sciences; 3 volumes tackle the area of the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences; 11 volumes analyse the scope of activities of the Department of Natural Sciences; 8 of the Department of Medical Sciences; 9 of the Department of Philology; 10 of the Department of Literature; 12 of the Fine Arts Department; 3 of the Department of Music and Musicology; and 7 of the Department of Technical Sciences. In addition to the printed editions, 2 editions were published in the digital form on the CASA website.

In the period from its founding on 29 April 1861 to the end of 2020, the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts published 6,643 collections of various publications in total.
