Born 3 July 1930 in Zagreb, Croatia.

  • 1954 degree in Classical Philology, University of Zagreb.
  • 1959 PhD at the same university
  • 1961 appointed Lecturer of Indo-European and General linguistics at the University of Zagreb. Tought in addition Indo Iranian Philology.

  • 1977 full professor of Slavic philology at the University of Vienna, Austria. Specialist in Indo-European linguistics, Balkanic and South Slavic languages and literatures
